Get to Know: Shawn
If the person you rely on most in the world suddenly up and disappears, what do you do? Do you sit around and wait for them to return? Or do you take matters into your own hands?
This week, Adam gave us the inside scoop on Shawn's storyline. Here's what he had to say...
How would you describe Shawn?
Shawn is naive - he has an overinflated sense of his own abilities that borders on self-righteousness. But his naivety is also what makes him such a genuine and faithful person.
Shawn's storyline alludes to him heading on a journey into the woods. Why there as opposed to some other location?
For a number of reasons. First off, I just love the woods. I've always felt at home in the woods. But the Appalachian woods in particular for me have always held an air of mystery. So much land, largely untouched by humans. It's the kind of place where anything could happen.
What do you imagine is on Shawn's go to playlist?
I've always pictured Shawn as a White Stripes kind of guy. But older White Stripes. The stuff he first listened to when he was young. He doesn't necessarily care for new music.
Fill in the blank: If readers liked ________, they may also like Shawn's storyline.
One of the biggest inspirations for Shawn's story, both plot and tone, is the video game Bloodborne, which in itself is largely based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Most importantly, the sense of picking at the end of a loose thread, only to have it unravel into something much longer and more winding than you every could have expected.
The original art inspired by Shawn's story is by local artist Justin Cooper. Justin is a Pittsburgh-based graphic designer, focused on illustration and typography. You can usually find him min his garage or at a local brewery. For more of his work, visit: www.justinwcooper.com.
